Whitney Houston died of drowning in her bathtub caused by cocaine overdose and contributed to a heart attack, as stated in her toxicology report.

The Los Angeles County in California has already released the toxicology report claiming that the legendary pop diva Whitney Houston died of drowning on her hotel bathtub caused by overdose of cocaine and heart attack last February 11.

Houston, 48, was “found submerged in bathtub filled with water” and “no trauma or foul play is suspected,” the coroner said in a one-page release.

Her cocaine use appeared to have occurred “in the time period just immediately prior to her collapse in the bathtub at the hotel,” Chief Coroner Craig Harvey told reporters.

The 60% narrowing of her arteries “suggest a cardiac event complicated by the cocaine use” led to Houston’s slipping underwater, Harvey said.

“Something happened that caused her to go down and we know that when she slipped under the water she was still alive,” he said. “We have evidence of drowning since there was water in the lungs.”

The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs “did not contribute to the death,” it said.

The report released Thursday did not disclose the levels of each drug, but that information will be included in the final coroner report to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.

Houston’s family, which had been informed of the findings before Thursday’s release, issued a statement through a family spokeswoman.

“We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure,” said Patricia Houston, the singer’s sister-in-law and former manager.

Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Authorities had said that police and fire officials were called to Houston’s room at the Beverly Hilton after her unconscious body was found in the bathtub, just hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammy party at the hotel.

Houston won six Grammys and sold 170 million albums, singles and videos over her career.

In recent years, the singer’s accomplishments were overtaken by her struggles with drug addiction.

Reinabelle Reyes, Filipina astrophysicist from Princeton University, verified again the Theory of General Relativity formulated by Albert Einstein.

A Filipina proved right the world’s most prominent scientist.

This was after a team of astrophysicists from Princeton University, lead by 28-year-old Reinabelle Reyes, once again verified the Theory of General Relativity formulated by German Jewish scientist Albert Einstein on a cosmic scale – this study proved the existence of a force greater than gravity, called the Dark Energy, and how galaxies billions of light years away are clustered together through gravity – way back in 2010.

Led by Reyes, the research team made headlines back in 2010 when they showed how galaxies up to 3.5 billion light years away are clustered together in exactly the way General Relativity predicts. They came up with a new astronomical measurement, which indicates how galaxies are pulled together by gravity, just as Einstein theorized.

Her findings also support the existence of Dark Energy—a force greater than gravity once merely imagined by scientists. This is a big deal, because, even NASA tells us, pinning down the exact properties of Dark Energy is among the most significant problems facing science today. According to the NASA website, Dark Energy “is the deepest mystery in physics, and its resolution is likely to greatly advance our understanding of matter, space, and time.”

Reinabelle Reyes is among the scientists involved in unraveling this profound mystery.

Reyes graduated first from the Ateneo as summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Physics and got her PhD in Astrophysics from the said university.

**********

However, a debate has sparked when Reyes professed that she doesn’t believe in God and His existence on one of her interviews with a local news website.

One commented on Facebook, even citing the Bible: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.”

She would rather not believe she would not be the next American Idol, but instead be contented that, at least, she made it there.

Jessica Sanchez claims this after being the most talked-about contestant, the undisputed front-runner and the ‘next titleholder’ as most American agree with, in the top-rating reality show ‘American Idol’.

She has already received lots of praises from millions of viewers in the US and around the world, including the Philippines where her mother came from, and three standing ovations from the judges – Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler, Latin singer Jennifer Lopez and music executive Randy Jackson – after her powerful performances since the start of the Top 13 round in the competition. Her rendition of the song I Will Always Love You by the late pop diva Whitney Houston was remarked as the most applauded and powerful act yet in the 11 seasons that the show has existed.

She sang Billy Joel’s (theme of the week) Everybody Has A Dream which gave her the said third standing O from the judges. Tyler goofed, “When God gave vocal cords, you were so in front of the line,” and that “you have gone way past my judging.” Lopez remarked that was her “defining song, that was you.” ““You have a moment every time you step up on that stage. It was flawless, it was perfect,” Jackson said, with much praise for the Filipina-Mexican-American.

That act gave her the chance to bounce back big time after her version of Gloria Estefan’s Turn the Beat Around (the theme was the year the contestants were born) which gave her floppy comments from the judges and regarded them as constructive criticism.

Jessica is now included in the Top 9 of the competition, and the contestants are already housed in the Idol mansion. She will also join the  Idols Summer Tour which will be held after the finale on the third week of May.

Prosecution panel head, Re. Niel Tupas, Jr., and defense panel head, former Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas, seems to greet each other good luck on the first day of the impeachment of Cheif Juatice Renato Corona.

After 34 days of endless rants, lectures, never-ending throws of speculations and accusations, and even just a teaspoonful of laughs and tons of threats imposed, the impeachment of the chief of one of the government’s highest offices takes a break.

The Senate, who presided as the impeachment court, has cut the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato C. Corona short for the said 6-week Holy Week(?) break. The proceedings will presume on May 7th, with the continuation of the defense panel’s presentation of counter-evidence showed by the prosecution panel.

The said trial would be the first time in Philippine History to be conducted for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The last exercise was done – and failed – at former President Joseph Estrada that led to his resignation in office.

The prosecutors, composed of mainly administration representatives and headed by House Committee on Justice Chairman (Iloilo Rep.) Niel Tupas, Jr., had presented their evidences focused only of Articles 2 (failure to disclose Stated of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth or SALN, contributing to betrayal of public trust and/or culpable violation of the Constitutution), 3 (creating flipflopping decisions – focused on the issue of mandatory layoff of the employees of the Philippine Airlines – in the Supreme Court, leading to the same as Article 2), and 7 (partiality in issuing a temporary restraining order (TRO) in favor of the departure of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Singapore for medical purposes, leading to betrayal of public trust) and took them seven weeks to show off all of them. They decided to drop the other 5 articles which they submitted to the court, presided by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, after claiming these three are already sufficient and strong enough to impeach the Chief Justice. However, they gave too much emphasis on Article 2 which took more than 20 witnesses to testify, including Bureau of Internal Revenue Commisioner Kim Jacinto-Henares, clerk-of-court of the Supreme court, and several registrars of deed and officers of corporations where Mr. Corona allegedly bought some properties which were not disclosed in his SALN.

Meanwhile, the defense panel, composed of private lawyers and led by retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas, are still on the process of presenting their counter-evidences on Article 2 to prove that only less than the number of the properties disclosed by the prosecution were actually owned by the Chief Justice and his family, and that they are no other inconsistencies in his SALN.

One may have a second thought that after more than two months of the trial, the proceedings and related events have focused only on the prominent issue nowadays – acquisition of ill-gotten wealth – and not dealt with what was supposed to be the main ground of his possible impeachment – the much bias given for the Arroyo administration and his alleged partiality.

One newspaper columnist had quoted: “We thought web could be Don Quixotes then realized we were at best Sancho Panzas.”

Baguio. It is located at the mountains of Benguet province. The main reason why most tourists go there is because they want to enjoy the cool climate that can never be found elsewhere in the country. However, it is not only during summer when most people drive up to Baguio. Baguio also has a lot of visitors during the months of November until January when the climate is definitely colder than its usual temperature. The climate is perfect for growing various kinds of plants and agricultural products. Photographers, flower enthusiasts, tourists, and alike come together every February to witness the spectacular Panagbenga Festival also known as the Flower Festival.

Coron Island.  A part of the Calamianes group of islands in Philippine frontier of Northern Palawan, boasts a staggering array of magnificent seascapes, jaw-dropping scenery and world-class wreck diving – virtually a platter of adventure for the intrepid. It is best known for the eight out of twelve Japanese supplies shipwrecks that were sunk by the United States Navy during a massive air bombing campaign during World War 2.

The water is incredibly clear and perfect that you’d be able to spot different species of fish like the yellow fin tuna, groupers, scorpion fish and lion fish. Aside from the lakes, the dive sites, marine sanctuaries and the numerous secluded white-sand beaches that dot the area, there is also a natural hot spring and sits near the little mangrove forest.

Bohol.  This place is best known for two things: the Philippine Tarsier which is the smallest primate in the world and the over a thousand intriguing perfectly cone-shaped hills of similar sizes spread out over 50 square kilometres in the island’s centre. This hills are called Chocolate Hills since the grass and vegetation dries out and the hills looked a lot like huge chocolate mounds baking under the tropical sun. The hills are conical karst in nature, which is pretty similar to those seen in the limestone regions of Croatia and Slovenia sans the caves. It is so that the words Bohol, Tarsiers and the Chocolate Hills are so synonymous that one cannot mention Bohol in the same sentence without mentioning the other two.

One can also drop by at the second-oldest stone church in the Philippines 6 kilometres away from Tagbilaran City. Close to the church is the town of Loay, the original site of the blood compact between local Chief Sikatuna and Spanish Captain Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. For the beach bums and sun-worshippers, Bohol boasts of world-class white sand beaches especially in the nearby corraline island of Panglao of which Alona Beach and Dumaluan Beach are the better known.

Batangas. This unassuming province rich with a lively past, history, folklore, nature and stretches of excellent beaches and the most accessible dive sites teeming with marine life, is a favorite place of beach lovers. The province’s beautiful coral reefs and diverse marine life are sought after by divers.  Some of the popular diving spots in Batangas are Anilao, Nasugbu, Balayan Bay, and Ligpo Island. Its close proximity to Metro Manila makes Laiya Beach in San Juan, Batangas perfect for weekend getaways and excursions. Taal Lake and Volcano attract local and foreign tourists. Visitors can usually arrange for a guided trek from the shore of the volcano island to the rim of the volcano in order to see the main crater lake.

Boracay. If you have seen it from posters and postcards, it probably has an image of an island paradise to you. Boracay, fondly called “Bora” for short by frequent visitors, is famous for its powdery white sand beaches and pristine blue waters. Boracay used to be an untapped piece of paradise before the mid ’90s. Through the years it has attracted hordes of investors. Today, big hotels and establishments have mushroomed around the area, making Boracay a modern and posh summer hangout for both local and foreign tourists as well as a popular choice of celebrities. It’s a great place to enjoy water activities such as snorkeling, diving and island hopping, and its stunning sunsets are something to behold. The orchestra of hues in the sky as the sun goes down is a prize for onlookers and photographers alike.

Why go for abroad just for summer trips this summer? With these exciting places to go this summer, it is really FUN in the Philippines.

Kitchen walls

Clean your kitchen walls at least once a week. Use ammonia or other similar style cleansing products. Use a scrub brush and your favorite cleansing solution, to gently go over each section. You will need cleaning rags. Add only one of the cleansing rags to water. Ring out the cleansing rag and go over that one section of the wall. Use your dry towel to go over each section that has been first scrubbed and then wiped down.

Kitchen floors

Purchasing the wrong mop can cause you hours of unwanted labor. Cheap mops and scrub brushes should not be used on the floor. Not because they are not somewhat effective, but because they take up too much of your valuable time. When possible, purchase a Swiffer to give your kitchen floors a deep clean in minutes without the hassle associated with a bucket of cleansing soap and a traditional mop.

Kitchen counters

Keeping your kitchen counters cleaned can become challenging when you have smaller children, or have extremely limited free time. Teaching everyone how to take their own plate off the table and place the item into the sink can save you thousands of minutes alone this year.

If your counter tops are sticky and dull, wipe them down throughout the day. Use microfiber cleansing cloths, paper towels, or dish towels Wipe down the counter tops and all water fixtures on the display. If the counters are especially grimy, take a few moments to scrub each section with a scrub pad. Then use your dry dish cloth and wipe down each section.

Taking a few minutes throughout the day to make sure that you sink is shiny and your counters are clear can help your kitchen remain clean and clutter free. Having a clean kitchen is a great way to keep you home approachable for entertaining, and meals with your family.

Combine cooking and cleaning.

Keep a schedule to cleaning all areas in the kitchen including inside the refrigerator, freezer and other machines. Sweep the kitchen floor at least once a day. Mop the floor immediately after any spill to prevent accidents and proliferation of dirt and bacteria.

Keeping off rodents and insects.

Ensure that dry bulk food such as corn starch, sugar or flour are stored in a tightly covered metal or glass containers. This will keep cockroaches, rats or ants at bay. Also maintain cleanliness by throwing away discarded paper or plastic containers so they don’t become dwelling places for insects. Making use of lids is also an innovative way of maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen. Lids of various containers can be used over which you can place jars and containers which contain sticky liquids. The reason behind it is that it helps to clean only the lids rather than cleaning the whole shelf. This eventually saves time and energy.

The kitchen acts as family central and is the busiest room in the house. Not only are wonderful meals and nutritious snacks prepared there, but also some of the most endearing conversations and bonding moments take place in this space. That’s why it is very important for one’s house that their kitchen be sanitary in all ways.
